The changes in concentration of thiamine, biotin and vitamin B sub(12) in water of the soaked bottles for 6 h in situ in the north basin of Lake Biwa were examined successively over 30 hours. The concentrations of the vitamins changed comparatively during 6 h. soaking in situ. Generally, the concentrations of thiamine, biotin and vitamin B sub(12) were in high levels in the morning and in low levels in evening both in the soaked bottles and in the surrounding water. The fluctuation ranges in concentration of vitamins in a 5 m deep layer were greater than those in thermocline. From the data obtained with the soaked bottles in situ, it was supposed that the decrease of vitamins in concentration during the daytime surpass consumption of vitamins by... |

Chitin was estimated in samples of planktonic crustaceans living in Calvi Bay (Corsica). The percentages of chitin, with respect to dry weight, are comprised between 3.10% in Clausocalanus spp. and 12.22% in Cladocera (mainly Evadne ). The percentage of chitin remained approximatively constant during larval development in Calanus helgolandicus (3.26%). Using these results and the values of total biomass and production estimated by Dauby (1985) at the same place during a complete annual cycle (1983-1984), chitin biomass and production were calculated for every planktonic crustacean species (or group of species) and for the whole crustacean plankton. Daily chitin production was maximum during May (20.06 mg.m super(-2)/d). As far as the whole year is... |

Planktonic information obtained in four fixed stations in front of Esmeraldas coast, Punta Galera, Puerto López and salinas is analyzed, during 1999-2000 and 2003-2006 periods. Temporal variability of phytoplankton and zooplankton densities between 2004 and 2006 were mainly determined by the oceanographic characteristics, and by the interrelations between the components of plankton and seasonal distribution of the organisms, as well. Higher phytoplankton productivity was determined in front of Esmeraldas, whereas the higher concentrations of zooplankton were obsrved in Puerto López, this evidences the predation at the first by the second trophic level. the phytoplankton composition in Esmeraldasis mainly influenced by the Esmeraldas river whereas in Port... |
